Antwerp Throughput Down 3.5%

The port authority of Antwerp said its throughput fell by 3.5 percent in 1999, with a significant drop in dry bulk traffic. The port said it handled 115.65 million tons of cargo in total, with 66.15 million tons imported and 49.50 million tons exported. Dry bulk throughput fell 13.3 percent to 26.14 million tons but container traffic grew by 10.7 percent to 3.61 million 20-foot equivalent units.
