USCG Issues NPRM

The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) relating to servicing intervals for inflatable liferafts and inflatable buoyant apparatus (IBA) on domestic commercial vessels not certificated under SOLAS. Under the proposal, the first servicing of such new devices on these vessels would be deferred to two years after initial packing. Comments on the proposal should be submitted by May 6, 2002.
